Do I have any other Tolkien fans on here? You know, “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit?” I am a big fan of the books and the movies. The story is so amazing in its depth and storytelling. I have longed many times to actually sit down and talk to Tolkien just so I could hear his voice and absorb his genius.
But, I digress. I love these stories for many reason but one of those reasons is the overarching theme of a journey. Frodo…Bilbo…Gandalf…Aragorn….the list goes on. All these complicated characters are on the journey of their lives. They had their ups and their downs. There were many a time they wanted to quit and just go home. And a few got pretty darn close to give it all up.
But, what happened? They did not give up. And they reached their goal and ultimately, saved the entire Middle Earth. YEAH!! * Resounding Applause *
Gosh! I do LOVE those stories.
Anyway, how does it relate to fitness and nutrition?
YUP!! It is all a journey. I have some pretty smart readers. 🙂
Fitness and Nutrition is a journey. There will be ups and downs. There will be bumps and bruises. There are no quick fixes here.
Frodo and Bilbo had to face trolls, evil sorcerers, giant spiders (the worst part), a giant dragon (so cool!), elf/human ugly hybrids, and the list goes on.
And yet, they continued on in their journey. They faced their enemies, fought them, and defeated them. Not anyone could’ve achieved what they did.
What made them special?
They stared adversity and a GIANT goal in the face and said, “I WILL WIN!”
And so should you….
Taking responsibility for your own health is an extremely daunting task. I know it is. There are so many ‘diets’ and quick fixes out there. And all their promises can be so tempting.
Lose 10 pounds quick!!
You know what ‘diets’ do? They remove responsibility from you and puts it on the diet. If the DIET fails you blame the diet.
But, a true CHANGE requires you to take full responsibility for your actions….for your own journey.
You CHOOSE to eat that cupcake.
You CHOOSE to not exercise today.
You CHOOSE to not drink your water.
You CHOOSE to eat your on-plan meal.
You CHOOSE to exercise even when you don’t want to.
You CHOOSE to carry your water bottle with you to work and refill it all day long.
It is a Journey. It is an Adventure. It will be exciting and even sometimes scary. Either way, it will be life-changing.
It will take a long time. But, bit by bit and step by step you will overcome your obstacles and you WILL reach your goals.
